THEN CAME YOU
You came into my life
my heart still on the mend
I wanted no more
than just a casual friend
My thoughts, to you I would confide
all the hurtful things I held deep inside
you listened, and in a way, you helped me
grow, with a caring understanding..more than
can know...
You became all I thought I didn't need
you touched my life, my heart you freed
my soul you mended, my tears you dried
I couldn't resist you..although I tried.
Then one day, I was looking at you
and I knew then that I was caught..
suddenly our friendship wasn't as casual
as I thought....
PROMISE
She made a promise,
long ago
to stay forever by his side.
He brought her smiles
he brought her tears,
which she quickly dried.
She stayed there, as she promised
and though
time and time again he tested-
that quiet woman refused to be bested.
She gave him two daughters,
along with a son,
but deep in her heart, she wanted to run.
Yet she stayed there as she promised
and time and time, again he tested-
that quiet woman refused to be bested.
Soon her little ones, had little ones of their own,
and with her husband by her side,
she still felt so alone.
She stiffened her back,
pushed away the tears
and remained by his side
for many more years.
And through it all she kept her promise
and still he tested
and that tired old woman
refused to be bested.
She sat by his side weeping softly,
on that cold and bitter day
as she watched her husband of 59 years,
quietly slip away.
She wandered through the next few days
as if she didn't know,
quite what to do with herself,
or which way she needed to go.
She looked so tired
she looked so gray
but we loved her so much,
and wanted her to stay.
The next morning at very first light,
we found that she had left us
softly in the night.
Those ties of love were strong,
we cried
For she kept her promise,
and went to his side.
THEY COME TO ME IN TWO'S
Dedicated to my family.
Everything good that comes to me
usually arrive in a set.
I often sit and wonder, how lucky
can one girl get?
It started with Grandma & Grandpa,
a lively set were they
and I treasure their love always
and in my heart they stay.
Next there came my Mom and Dad
they gave what they had to give
and because they gave me my life, and more
in my heart is where they live.
Then they gave me two sisters
better friends not to be found, anywhere
and if you examine my heart real close,
you will find them there.
Then there came my precious boys,
they were given to me in a set
and again I am left to wonder,
how lucky can one girl get?
THE LAKE
Shimmering...
the face of the lake is disrupted by the raindrops falling
gently upon it's surface..
it's breathtaking
I wonder at the existance of unhappiness in the world.
Reality keeps a respectful distance.
I ponder the beauty that is presently surrounding me..
I wish the world could be just like this.....
The face of the lake is disrupted by the teardrops falling
gently from my eyes upon it's surface....
DECLINING VALUE OF LIFE
Gun shots sound.
A body falls.
A marquee scrolling text:
"you lose."
Another statistic,
a story for the news.
Dead. He's Dead.
Does anyone care?
Someones son/husband/father
is no longer there.
We watch and we sigh
we think "what a shame"
When did life become
another video game?
Every bullet fired-
a possible score.
The media feeds us crime,
blood and gore.
And we watch, and we sigh
and return to our lives
and I wonder how we
became so
desensitized.
ENDINGS
Lately I've been watching you, hoping for a sign, that the
love you claimed you had for me, wasn't just a line.
But here I am, I'm losing you, and your losing me..
and what started out so sweetly, has turned to misery.
Standing before you, not daring to cry, you move toward me slowly,
and softly say, "goodbye".
My heart is breaking, still I smile and say,"It was nice
knowing you" and I walk away....
HOURGLASS
Life is so unpredictable, It races by so fast...in just a
matter of moments, my present becomes my past.
It seems like only yesterday, that I had you here with me..
but time is washing you away, like waves on the sea.
My memory of you is growing dim, with each and everyday,
I watch with bitter silence, as time quietly passes away...
WAITING
I'm no longer waiting
waiting for a sign...
any indication
to show that you are mine...
For if I held my breath that long
soon I would turn blue...
As I sit here waiting
waiting for you.
WATER
Water fall down from the sky, come on clouds,
you can cry...
tear's to mingle with my own
for I do not wish to weep alone
Rain wash the residue of dream
thunder silence my inner scream
Lightning illuminate the endless night
snow come obscure in white
Water falling in my face
erase my tears without a trace
ALONE
Laying there beside you, I guess I knew that
we had not much time left.. I tried so hard to hold
onto the tattered remnents of a dream that I knew I
would wake from, very soon..
The night passed all to quickly, and as I feared, you
were gone with the morning light...
Now I am here alone, trying to recall the feel
of your warm body wrapped around mine
but all I can feel is a vague sense of sadness...
WRETCHED
As I lay here listening to the wind whispering a mournful
tale, I am reminded of our own haunted story...
there I see you atop a silver stallion, your soft blue eyes
gazing down on me...
I see us running through the castle, shooting
each other with water pistols and laughing.
Then one day a horrid and ugly old witch shot out
of the sky on her broomstick, and made the laughter die.
She handed me an apple. Foolishly believing it to
be a token of friendship, I ate it. What I didn't
know, was that the evil old witch had put a spell on it.
Just before falling into a world of darkness,
I saw you take her hand...
Later, what woke me was not your kiss, but your
indifference......
ELUSIVE
Just a glimmer of stardust
passing through the night
a trail of sparkling memories
quickly fading from sight...
That is what you are to me
my footloose, fancy boy
a wonderful and magical gift
meant only for a moments joy
And like the fabled star, my love
you shot off and out of site
as I stand below, looking up
at your fading trail of light.....
CAN'T FORGET
You can cry yourself a river
to wash away the pain
forever being a victim
of a love in vain....
You can push away the past
pretend it never existed
trying to forget the man
and the love that you resisted..
But you cant forget
It's with you everyday..
the memories of the laughter
of the heart you threw away..
And blindly you make your way through life
pretending your satisfied..
no worry....no regret
but still, you can't forget....
THE STORM
Everyday we watched the sun get weaker, as we stood beneath
it's failing golden light. Then one day the sunlight died, and the skies turned dark and grey. Great, black thunderclouds rolled in, and lightning shot from the sky. The storm had laid claim to our castle.
We soon became victims of it's force. It cast dark, sinister light, and I was scared to walk the many halls alone, for fear that the shadows would reach out and make me one with the gloom.
"Hate...." the storm whispered in the most seductive of voices. I restisted the voice, but the others fell victim to it's wicked charm.
My love. The light in his eyes was soon snuffed out by the storm's violent winds..He became entranced by the voice of the storm, as it spoke softly to him, and caressed his hair. He enjoyed the sharp sting of it's cold tears in his face, and often I spied him dancing in the wind...I cried with bitter tears that he could forget the sunlight on his face...
It was then that I decided to leave the castle. As I was leaving, I had hoped to see the familiar light in his eyes, but it was replaced by a vacant stare...The storm had frozen his heart.
I ran as fast and as far as I could, and In the distance I could hear the storms mocking laughter.."Victory.." it screamed. I realized then that the storm was fueled by hate, and I was glad that I would no longer be contributing to it's force.
In the distance, another castle loomed. I ran toward it, and I never looked back.
MAY AGAIN
When its may again, I will pray again for the love I once had. We met in May, he left in May and I will love him forever and a day.
My heart is breaking, where can he be. I need him so desperatly, he is my eternity.
Oh...the way that I love him, God only knows I will live with this pain til he comes back to me.
BETWEEN THE LINES
It's summer time and there you are on the line
It’s an easier place to walk and the views are fine
Here on the line life is a one-track peace of mind
Directions are all easy to read bright signs
All in all it’s an easier place to walk and the views are fine
You hear the whistle blow and below feel the rumble through the line
There is a train in the distance and it’s coming from behind
There is no place to go but the rough and tumble edges of the side
So you continue walking on taking it all in stride
You pray for more time hoping for a diversion in the line
There is a long high bridge up ahead, with a narrow ledge and
no space on the edge
There is a choice you must make with each step that you take
Fast and furious the train approaches dragging behind a
mile of coaches
If you procrastinate and deny, it may be too late
Your chosen choice could seal your fate
Life is filled with choice; pleasure or pain,
short-term rewards for long term gains
But here on the straight and narrow of the line
it's always an easier place to walk
and the views are fine.
There is so much inside you
I know
Your thoughts ripple through time
like the ripples on a lake
The wildlife will land
upon your gentle waves
and you will smile
in the adoration
of their attention.
He was serenading silence -- When she neared him tonight.
He was taking in the quiet -- Toasting its delight.
His lips soft as velvet -- Kissed the still night air.
She blew a kiss -- On the breeze, to meet it there.
He was melting in the moment -- By the fire's light.
And she melted with him -- Oh, it seemed so right.
Her eyes met his and they entered a trance.
Without a warning, hearts joined in dance.
No-one could read what their minds had said,
As they joined each other in their daydream bed.
Through the night, a photo. Descretion set.
He took a memory of the night they met.
Over fire's flame their fingers gently touch.
One fleeting second that meant ohhh, so much.
She saw....
Not quite alone -- They knew not to kiss.
But still shared in words -- What actions must miss.
Their body language -- Was sweet as could be.
And in the night's silence -- They wished they were free.
Free to search the depths -- Of the feelings they hold.
The mystery of their wanting -- They could then unfold.
but for now, tonight -- They are quite content.
Knowing something will happen -- If it is meant.
She'll remember....
Listening to the words--and watching your face
Makes me yearn more for the rainbow--I chase.
When your lips brushed mine-- my eyes shed a tear.
And now more than ever--I wish--you were here.
I'm told...
A rainbow holds so many dreams--that span across the sky.
A rainbow holds the magic true--we can reach it if we try.
Many times--I ask myself--are my dreams of you worthwhile.
Then I look up--to the sky--and the rainbow holds a smile.
When I see your face--when I hear you say
"How ya doing?" always makes my day.
When you find your rainbow--what do you forsee?
Is there any room for a dreamer--like me?
I hear...
A rainbow holds so many dreams--that span across the sky.
A rainbow holds the magic true--we can reach it if we try.
Many times--I ask myself--are my dreams of you worthwhile.
Then I look up--to the sky--and the rainbow holds a smile.
Yes I look up--to the sky--and a rainbow holds a smile.
when you look at me
what do you see?
do you notice the pain inside?
or the smile that hides it all?
do you know the sparkle in my eyes
are the tears that cannot fall?
does my laughter sound hollow to your ears?
when you hold me do you feel..
the wall to keep out the fears?
what do you see?
Yeah, yeah, I'll try to come by
tomarrow
Hmmm. Sure
I'll give you a call
later
hey that's a great idea
we should try that
someday
well, I'm broke
right now
right now?
it's kinda late
maybe
later
tomarrow
someday.
She was the daughter of a Union general
raised to believe in daddy's values
reckless and headstrong
did as she wanted
and oh, daddy worried so
Summer was ending
the nights were colder
war was in the air
and daddy rode away with the fighting men
rebel girl, rebel girl
she was always such a rebel girl
rebel girl, rebel girl
she was always such a headstrong girl
met a soldier late one evening
with yankee blood on his hands
tall and handsome,
she fell in love
and understood his reasons
when he had to leave
she begged to go
just to be with him
walking through mud,
sleeping on the ground
are things she had never done
rebel girl, rebel girl
she was always such a rebel girl
rebel girl, rebel girl
she was always such a headstrong girl
when daddy saw her
he knew what she had done
he struck her 'cross the face
she fell upon his desk
and when she left his house
the plans for the battle she carried
she watched her lover ride away
the battle would be won
by his men this day
the information was in his pack
there was just no turning back
lord, forgive the traitor girl
